I try to stay updated for these kids who come back every year.”

He said the theme of his 2011 show is based on wishing, à la Aladdin and his magic lamp. The production starts off with a bang, literally, as a “genie” flies out of a larger-than-life lamp and darts around the stage.

After settling down a bit, she welcomes the audience with VanBurch’s new theme song, an adaptation of “Arabian Nights” from Disney’s “Aladdin.” To read the rest of the story click here: http://bransontrilakesnews.com/entertainment/article_0990934a-88a0-11e0-8be7-001cc4c002e0.html

Bandy eases out, Short slides on in

By Tyler Francke for the Branson Tri-Lakes News

Longtime Branson entertainer Moe Bandy has decided he will not perform at the Jim Stafford Theatre this season as he had planned, and the “Top 10 Rock and Roll Revue,” a tribute show that recently began its third season at the Branson Mall, will take his place.

Cindy Merry, Bandy’s publicist, said his touring schedule and some other projects he is working on forced him to push his opening date at the Jim Stafford Theatre back to Sept. 4. Merry, who is also Stafford’s marketing consultant, said the theater was having difficulty finding an act that would agree to perform at the time slot only for the next few months.

“Moe Bandy and the Staffords are really good friends,” Merry said. “And when Moe found out nobody wanted the spot if they couldn’t go all year, he was gracious enough to give it up.”

She said Bandy has not yet canceled his Branson show dates after Sept. 4, and he has been considering several venues as a possibility for those performances.

“As it stands right now, he has not canceled his fall and Christmas schedule,” Merry said. “There are some groups that he already has reserved for those dates.”

Marvin Short, one of the performers and co-owners of “Top 10 Rock and Roll Revue,” said the move is a bit of a homecoming for both him and the show’s other co-owner, Darrell Croy.

“We both have a really good rapport with Jim and Ann (Stafford) from our work with them in the past,” Short said Tuesday.

Croy, a pianist and Jerry Lee Lewis tribute artist in the Revue, was a musical director for “The Jim Stafford Show,” and Short said he performed at the theater as part of a different show for several years.

“They expressed interest in our show, because they had a timeslot opening up,” Short said of the Staffords. “Then they came out and saw the show and loved it, and the rest is history.”

Short said the move will give the Revue more exposure and be a good opportunity for it to grow. He and Croy also expect to be able to focus on the show a bit more, as marketing will now be handled by the theater staff instead of by them.

“With Jim being the Branson entertainer and entrepreneur that he is, his marketing team is fantastic,” Short said. “Everybody at the theater does their jobs really well. We’re excited to be part of that team.”

Jim Stafford will become the revue’s executive producer, while Short and Croy remain its owners. Short said the show’s name is also being changed to “Top 10 Rock and Roll Revue Presents Rockit,” which will eventually be shortened to “Rockit.”

Short said he fully expected to finish the season at the Branson Mall Music Theatre, but decided moving would be best for the show. He said the mall and the revue parted ways on good terms.

Short said the show’s cast will remain intact after the move. Short and Croy are joined on stage in the two-hour show with vocalists and dancers David Lawrence and Samantha Feller, guitarist Steve Ragsdale, bassist Randy Hall and drummer Mike Lacey.

The revue will perform six times a week at the Jim Stafford Theatre: Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m.

Last Thursday was its first night in the new venue.

“We’re excited about the move and very thankful for Jim and Ann,” Short said. “It’s definitely looking like this could be a permanent location for us. We’re hopeful that it will be.”

A Trip To Branson Goes Way Beyond the Expected

Good article by Amy Bertrand for the St Louis Post-Dispatch. fear of heights on new zipline adventure near Branson MO

by Paul Adler, KY3 News
Published: Apr 29, 2010 at 7:42 AM CDT

See the video here: http://www.ky3.com/news/local/92405309.html

WALNUT SHADE, Mo. -- A new attraction opens this weekend just north of Branson. It takes you zipping above the tree lines. For some, that sounds like a blast. For KY3 News anchor Maria Neider, it's just downright scary. Here's her experience on the zipline ride.

"Go ahead and step into the harness," guide Robert Cameron instructed.

When you suffer from acrophobia, strapping in for this ride will cause the sweat to break out. Neider has it -- bad.

"Are you nervous?" she was asked.

"Paul, of course, I'm nervous. That's crazy," she replied.

Neider has a severe anxiety about heights.

"Are you going to laugh at Maria?" a reprter asked General Manager Emma Hamilton.

"No, I won't laugh. I've been there too. I totally understand," said Hamilton.

"This is the tether; this connects to the actual zipline and the trolley," said Cameron.

Neider and I planned to test out the new ziplines. Ziplines are wires that you ride. They're some 50, 60, 70 feet in the air, above the trees.

"The helmet is for if something were to fall from above. It's not necessarily because we think you're going to fall," said Hamilton.

"I need that reassurance. That's a good thing," said Neider.

Before we went up, we signed waivers, got some instructions and climbed to the first tower. Neider's knuckles turned white as she got ready.

"We're going to connect you right up here, so move forward," said Hamilton.

"It's my lifeline," said Neider.

As we move closer, Neider looked like she was walking the plank on a pirate ship.

"You'll love it!" said Hamilton.

At the word "Go," I was off and flying. Neider was left standing on the platform with the clock ticking.

"Are you ready?" Hamilton asked.

"Yeah, I'm as ready as I'm going to get, if I can release my white knuckle grip," said Neider.

She finally jumped.

"Oh my god! Whoooooooo! Oh my god!" she said.

"It was totally frightening, letting go. I don't know how you can let go so fast. Oh, it was fun."

"So, you were able to face your fears today?" she was asked.

"I did it. Yes, I did. I do have a fear of heights still, but it was fun. I felt totally secure," said Neider.

The tours range in cost from $40 to $100. The 3rd annual Springtastic Show Spree begins April 12 and runs through April 18, 2010.

Springtastic Show Spree passes are for sale only on-line at the official website of The Branson Show League, ShowsInBranson.com, and are limited to purchase by individuals. Jim Stafford, famous comedian and nationally known recording star, believes this is “hands down the greatest show ticket value you will see all year in Branson.”

The Springtastic Show Spree pass allows fans to see ten of their favorite shows in Branson on a first come, first served basis during the week of April 12. Shows include productions such as Moe Bandy, Pierce Arrow, Hughes Brothers Show, Clay Cooper Country Music Express, Legends in Concert, Baldknobbers Jamboree, New Shanghai Circus, The Haygoods, Magnificent Variety Show, Grand Jubilee, Mike Walker & Friends, Brule’, Penny Gilley, Kirby VanBurch, Country Tonight featuring Marty Haggard, and many more. Pop, gospel, blues, rock 'n' roll, western, acrobats, magic, Cajun, swing, big band, Motown, and Broadway have become as important to Branson visitors as its country and comedy roots. “The ten shows visitors will see during the Springtastic Show Spree amount to less than 10% of the possible live shows you can currently enjoy in Branson,” “says Jason Hughes from the Hughes Brothers Show. “This special preview week will whet your appetite to come back again and again to enjoy the variety of ALL of the shows the town has to offer.” Dawn Easton owner of God and Country Theatre adds, “If you see your first ten shows during the Springtastic Show Spree, you’ll have to come back more than ten times just to see all the shows in Branson once.”

The limited amount of Springtastic Show passes are available only through April 8 or when the passes sell out, whichever comes first. “If you are a live show fan, a music lover of any sort, the Springtastic Show Spree is the ticket for you.” says the Buck Trent, 2-time CMA Instrumentalist of the Year and star of his own country music show. It is located directly off U.S. 65, seven miles north of Branson.

“This has all come together in the past year, and we were so lucky to get great property at this great location,” Hamilton said. “We also hope to pull the wildlife element into the tour and give people a true experience of coming to the Ozarks.”

According to its Web site, bransonzipline.com, certified guides will point out the most interesting ecological, topographical and historical features of the Ozark Mountains. Guests will be attached to the zipline cable by a secure harness and trolley system and will find themselves gliding through the trees between observation platforms. Guests will also experience canopy walkways that are basically suspension bridges that lead between the trees.

“There will be nine different ziplines and multiple suspended bridges,” Hamilton said. “After the guests reach the top of the first tower, they can clip in and soar from tower to tower. It should be a great experience for all ages.”

In addition to the zipline experience, the attraction is also offering an experience known as the “Fastline,” which is more for thrillseekers.

“Guests will be taken to the top and clipped in, before soaring down to the bottom tower,” Hamilton said. “Once guests reach the bottom tower, they are still 100 feet in the air.”

Guests must then choose exactly how they would like to reach the ground. The two choices are either several short zips or one big jump.

“The system used for those who want to jump off is similar to bungee jumping, without the recoil,” Hamilton said. “So after the line catches, they’ll glide slowly to the ground.”

Although an attraction like this will appeal to a broad group of people, there are certain rules and regulations that must be followed. The tour was designed to require minimal physical exertion and to be fun for all ages. There are a few steps and some walking involved, but guests who are capable of walking at the mall will be able to enjoy this tour.

This tour includes several ziplines, canopy walks and platforms. There is more than one mile of ziplines and canopy walks, and the tour will take an estimated two-and-a-half hours to complete. Guests with pre-existing health conditions that impair physical activity may want to check with a physician before participating in any of the tours and guests who are pregnant may not participate.

Other than that, the zipline tour can accommodate any age, as long as guests fall within the weight guidelines, which are between 70 and 275 pounds. Tours will also run rain, shine, snow or sleet. Only lightning will postpone a tour.

“This is something that families can come out and do together,” Hamilton said. “This is great because people of all ages can come out and spend a day making memories together, out in the woods, enjoying the Ozarks.”

Branson Zipline is currently targeting the first week in May as the grand opening, and is accepting reservations for May 1 and beyond. There are currently four different tours and two different attractions, ranging in price from $39.99 to $179.99.

For additional information, visit bransonzipline.com, and check out the blog that gives weekly updates, as well as photos, at http://www.bransonziplineblog.com/.

Moe Bandy and a little "Moe" Christmas

Gary J. Groman for Branson Tourism Center, December 1st, 2009

The Moe Bandy show is simply great fun and entertainment with great singing, comedy and playing. Although the show has no specific Christmas segment, there are Christmas numbers seamlessly worked into a show filled with great music and comedy that results in one of the most enjoyable entertainment experiences in Branson.

The band is outstanding and composed of some of the best instrumentalists in Branson, Ricky Boen, fiddle and guitar; Mark Boyd, guitar; John Clark, steel guitar and fiddle; Mark Evans, bass guitar; Bruce Hoffman, fiddle and guitar; Nicko Ochoa, drums and Ed Synan, piano.

The show’s female vocalist is Kari Garrison who does a great job not only as a backup singer but on a number of solos. Her rendition of the Christmas song, “Let’s Make A Baby King” at the beginning of the second half of the show was wonderful and demonstrated the range and quality of her voice. Her duet with Moe of “I Can’t Feel Christmas Without You” was another highlight.

The comedy of Perry Edenburg as “Harley Worthit” will have you laughing from the pre-show to the end of the show. Most of his outfits are outrageous and as funny as his jokes and antics. He does a number of routines by himself and some with his “straight man,” Moe Bandy,” but it is all so funny. One thing for sure, just about the time you think you can’t laugh anymore, along comes another skit such as the one to the music of “Come A Little Bit Closer” and you find out you were wrong.

Moe Bandy sings, and plays straight man to Harley Worthit, but it is his marvelous ability to relate to his audience and the way he sings and presents his music in a way that seems to speak to the ordinary person that makes this show so special. Even the old standard “White Christmas” just seemed different in the context of this show.

Moe sings a variety of songs including many of hits including “Bandy the Rodeo Clown,” “Rodeo Romeo,” and many more including two personal highlights ,“Americana” and “Too Old to Die Young.” Among others, he also did “Mid Night Rodeo,” a song from his new album and a neat medley of songs from other stars such as Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire, ” Marty Robbins “Devil Woman,” Freddy Fender’s “I’ll Be There before the Next Tear Drops Falls” and “George Jones “White Lightning.”

This is an unpretentious music and comedy show that provides two of the most fun filled and enjoyable hours of entertainment in Branson. It will go by so fast you will find yourself wishing for “Moe.”

For tickets or information on the “Moe Bandy Show” or any other Branson shows or attraction and lodging information or reservations please contact the Branson Tourism Center (BTC) one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services and sellers of Branson show and attraction tickets and lodging. Groman for Branson Tourism Center, November 30th, 2009

“What a show!” It’s the celebration of Russian New Years and Christmas in one show as only Yakov can do it. The Yakov Smirnoff Christmas Show is a combination of his regular show with the addition of the celebration of the Russian New Year and Christmas. From its simple opening with Suzanne Wonderly singing the “Star Spangled Banner” and the celestial introduction of Yakov to its inspiring close, this show is a special Christmas gift of Yakov’s unique humor, great production, costuming, and dancing that is a wonderful Branson entertainment experience.

The majority of the first half of the show is composed of audience favorites from Yakov’s regular show. Yakov does a number of excellent and funny comedy routines that are built around themes and are introduced by full production numbers.

To paraphrase the words of Yakov himself, “You might not have thought about production numbers in a comedy show, but you will now.” The dancers, costuming, and music are excellent and choreographed into the show along with excellent sets. When combined with Yakov’s great comedy and his ability to relate so well with his audience the result is a unique “exciting quality entertainment experience.”

One personal highlight of the first half would be the “Russian to Redneck” segment combining great dancing along with Yakov’s humor as he transitions from a Russian to a Redneck. Another was the segment involving “President Yakov.”

The first half ends with the celebration of the Russian New Year which actually comes before the Russian religious celebration of Christmas on the actual date of January 7. And what a celebration it is, everyone participates, the audience, the Statute of Liberty and the Russian dancers. It’s an exciting and fun filled way to end the first half of the show.

The second half is all Christmas themed starting with toy soldiers, snowman, excellent dancing and a Frosty presentation of Yakov for an extremely funny stand up routine. Christmas is about giving love and Yakov about giving laughter. The two are combined as Yakov gives the audience the gift of his counsel on the sharing of love and laughter while on an entertaining tour of his Laboratory of Laughter.

There is even action on the high seas as Santa has to deal with pirates who have captured him and threaten Christmas. In a fun filled action segment Santa find the key that opens the treasure chest and saves Christmas.

The inspiring finale is filled with the spirit of Christmas. Groman for Branson Tourism Center, November 26th, 2009

The word that comes to mind walking out of the theatre, after seeing Dino Kartsonakis’ “Dino’s Christmas Extravaganza,” in Branson, Missouri, is “spectacular.” Take any element of the show, piano playing, costuming, violin and fiddle playing, dancing, or singing and the word that describes each in the context of this show is “spectacular.” Combine them with a show dedicated to the true spirit of Christmas and the result is not only a spectacular show, but a special spectacular Christmas show.

Dino is a remarkable pianist and plays it all from pop to classical with energy, elegance, and beauty. Almost as important however, is his showmanship and ability to relate to his audience. Combine that with the singing of his wife Cheryl and the violin and fiddle playing of David Klinkenberg, spectacular choreography, dancing, production, and costuming and the result truly is a spectacular show that is a great entertainment experience.

From the very first number it is very apparent that the dancers know their craft well and that their skill, grace, and elegance has been choreographed into the show to maximize its effect on the theme and flow of this show from the full dancing cast in “New York, New York” to the Celtic dancing while Cheryl sang “What Child is This.” Tonya Coker is the choreographer, Lisa Davis the Dance Captain and Pamela Gwen Bliss, Lyra Sprenger, Brianna Gonzales, Terra Donahue, Stephanie Richardson, Jake Voelz, Mike Ness, Dustin Stephan and William Faust comprise the rest of the dance company.

A lot of Branson shows divide their show into distinct parts, non Christmas first half and Christmas during the second half. Dino’s show provides and interesting and entertaining mix of Christmas numbers with non-Christmas numbers during the first half. The second half is devoted strictly to Christmas and the true meaning of Christmas.

During the first half of the show, Christmas numbers such as “The Christmas Song,” by Dino on the piano with a production number of “What Child is This” sung by Cheryl and danced to by the “Celtic Dancers and the playing of silent night on the violin by David Klinkenberg are mixed in with numbers such as “New York New York” involving Dino and the dancers, the “Entertainer” and Klinkenberg’s playing of the classical “Pachelbel’s Canon,” also known as “Canon in D major.” A personal favorite was the combination of Dino and David on the piano and fiddle playing the “William Tell Overture, “The Lone Ranger Theme.”

The second half of the show was all Christmas featuring a beautiful Christmas set, costuming more production numbers, fabulous dancing, Cheryl’s singing, Dino’s piano playing and David’s fiddle and violin. From its opening production number “Celebrate Christmas” to the culminating production number at the manger in Bethlehem with Dino’s playing “O Holy Night” it is pure Christmas.

Oh, it has numbers like “Winter Wonderland,” and “Jingle Bell Rock” and even a special song, “It Wouldn’t Be Christmas Without You,” written especially for Cheryl to sing in the show. It has traditional Christmas Carols such a “Silent Night,” “The First Noel” and more along with its famous manger scene finale with Dino Playing “O Holy Night,” but more importantly it conveys the true spirit and meaning of Christmas in an entertaining and spectacular manner. Not only is it spectacular entertainment, but it creates an awareness about the most important Christmas gift anyone could ever receive.

Anyone seeing the entertaining spectacle “Dino’s Christmas Extravaganza” will instantly understand why this show has been a Branson favorite for over 19 year. Our continued success relies on the people of Taney County, the Chamber of Commerce and members of the media.”

Lin also spoke of the importance of having a good relationship between two important countries.

“After several years of heightened relationships, now the Chinese and American people have a very decent friendship,” Lin said. “You can buy all products made in China in the United States, and in China, we see McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Kentucky Fried Chicken everywhere.”

The Chinese people believe that sharing their culture and heritage with the rest of the world will bring people closer together.

“It is really unusual for a Chinese businessman to come to America, start a corporation and be able to compete in a market such as Branson,” Cindy Merry said. “This event is being featured on newspapers and television shows all over China. This is really a big deal.”

In addition to Lin, Western Taney County Commissioner Jim Strafuss also presented the theater with a resolution from the county that he presented with the help of his daughter, Liberty, who he adopted from China in 2004.

“The Chinese culture is very near and dear to my heart,” Strafuss said. “The theater and this association has a lot of community involvement, including the Adopted Chinese Children Association, and we are very honored they chose Taney County for their home base to showcase these acrobats.”

Jerry Adams, Branson public information director, was also on hand to honor the guests.

“It is an honor to have all these dignitaries from China here in Branson,” Adams said. “Having this show here really expands what Branson has to offer to the millions of tourists that visit our community. Plus, it gives the area such a great international flare.”

The New Shanghai Circus will also be an integral part of a 2010 promotion called “See the World in Branson.” More details on the promotion as they become available.

“I think that this is all just great,” Merry said. “They add something really different to Branson.”

The New Shanghai Circus performs shows at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8 p.m. shows on Sundays. Groman

“Oh yeah,” the Buck Trent show is one entertaining, lively and exciting way to start a day in Branson. From start to finish, this show is quality non-stop comedy, singing and music presented by some of the most talented singers and musicians in Branson.

Obviously, this show has a star, Buck Trent, who lives up to his billing as a “premier international five string banjo picker, master musician, hilarious humorist, and entertainer extraordinaire,” but from an audience entertainment perspective it’s the way those talents are blended in with the rest of the cast that helps make the show so special. The singing provided by Kenny Parrott and Melody Hart along with their instrumental playing, Parrott on the guitar, Hart on the fiddle and mandolin; Rob Blackwood, drums; Dave Clark, bass guitar; Bruce Hoffman, steel guitar and fiddle and Jonathan Black on the piano and saxophone combine with Buck to provide two of the fastest and most entertaining hours in Branson morning, noon or night!

For the rest of the story click here: http://news.bucktrent.com/2009/10/is-bransons-buck-trent-show-it-oh-yeah.html

What do the New Shanghai Circus and the Baldknobbers have in common?

October 23rd, 2009 by Gary J. Groman

On October 22, the “New Shanghai Circus,” founded in Shanghai, China by Mr. Lizhi Zhao in 1991, received a plaque of recognition from Mr. Jian Lin, President of the Chinese Acrobats Association (CAA), honoring the “New Shanghai Circus” for sharing Chinese talent, entertainment and culture with the United States and other nations. What’s remarkable is that the award was presented to Mr. Zhao, not in Shanghai, China, but over 7,254 miles away in Branson, Missouri.

Even more remarkable is the fact that the award was presented to Mr. Zhao, and other representatives of the “New Shanghai Circus,” in the “New Shanghai Circus Theatre” built in Branson specifically to accommodate the performances of one of Branson’ s most unique and beautiful shows, “The Acrobats of China.” Some might ask, “What’s a Chinese acrobatic show doing in Branson, Missouri where the Baldknobbers country music and comedy show started it all 50 years ago?” The answer is, “Doing the same thing the Baldknobbers did, and are still doing 50 years later, providing Branson visitors with a quality entertainment experience.”

What an evolution has taken place since the first Baldknobbers show. The Branson show scene has grown and expanded to the point where, from comedy to outdoor drama and music from country to opera, the Branson entertainment experience has a high quality show available for just about every taste. Groman

Even after living in Branson for over 23 years the variety and quality of the shows that Branson provides on a daily basis is amazing. From comedy to outdoor drama and music from country to opera there is a high quality show available for just about every interest.

However, even in the “Live music show capital of the world” there are some shows that are so unique, both in terms of their type and in the manner in which they are presented, that they in fact define a genre of show and the standard of excellence for that genre.

The “Acrobats of China,” presented by The New Shanghai Circus, is such a show. Currently there is nothing in Branson that remotely resembles the type of show and the near perfection of its cast as they perform exciting, colorful, and action filled feats providing their audiences with an incredible one of a kind entertainment experience.

Right from the beginning this show sets the pace for what is to come. What a fantastic way to start the show and “raise the bar” of expectation for the rest of the show. There was so much going on it was hard to take it all in, but one thing was apparent, there was more talent on that stage doing more things than could possibly be featured in one show.

There was one young lady doing things with an object on a string that was simply amazing. Although it was subsequently explained that it was a type of Chinese Yoyo called a “Diabolo,” the explanation was only sought out because of the skill of the performer and her amazing performance. In a lot of shows it would have been a “blow away” opening act by itself, however, it was just one of a series of amazing activities presented in rapid succession during the opening number.

This writer doesn’t recall ever seeing an opening act to a show in Branson or anywhere else that has more excitement, action, color, or better costuming. Simply put, make sure you’re in your seat when the curtain goes up because this is one opening act you don’t want to miss.
Everything about this show is about excellence, synchronization, excitement, precision, skill and entertainment. Even something as seemingly mundane as the beating of Chinese drums is turned into a colorfully synchronized entertainment experience that is amazing to see and hear.

Acrobats of China is a virtual cornucopia of one amazing, entertaining, and exiting act after another that seamlessly melds into one grand choreographed entertainment experience for both adults and children. Although it would be impossible to discuss each act in one article the discussion of a few highlights will hopefully serve to illustrate the entertainment experience that is the Acrobats of China.

The Human Strength act is a beautiful demonstration of strength, agility, and coordination. Like most of the acts involved with the show, the costuming is great and the skill, grace and precision of the performers is left to speak for itself.

The Chair Stack act starts on top of a table and rapidly rises in height with the addition of three chairs. After she does a one hand stand she adds a fourth chair, a table and, well, I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but suffice it to say it’s an exciting end to an incredible performance completed high above the stage.

The Aerial Fish Ballet is a beautiful ballet performed on top of a table on a hand stand. She does all the ballet moves while supporting herself with one hand. It is a magnificent and elegant thing to witness and experience.

Even in a show as action filled and fast paced as this one, the Russian Bar act stands out for its fast pace and highflying action. The “flyer” gets catapulted high into the air as their teammates tumble and land on the other end of the bar (catapult) that sends them high above the stage. All this writer knows is that even as he was sitting there witnessing the act he thought to himself, “This is amazing, but how do I describe it and do it justice?” The answer is, “I don’t, you just have to see it yourself and be amazed.”

The real story on the Acrobats of China, one just has to see it and be amazed. The word “Incredible” used to be in the show’s title, but in the title or not, the Acrobats of China is one beautiful, colorful, exciting and incredible entertainment experience.

Neal McCoy Makes an Impact In Branson Mo

Editorial in Branson Daily News on August 19, 2009
by Josh Clark, Staff Writer

Ever since I started here at the Branson Tri-Lakes News at the end of May, I have had the pleasure of meeting, interviewing and seeing some of the best performers in the area.

With the notable exception of the Comets who, in addition to being true legends of rock ‘n’ roll, are one of my favorite shows in town, I try not to interject my opinion when it comes to shows.

That was until I got the chance to see Neal McCoy last Thursday night at the Yakov Smirnoff Theater. I was, for lack of a better word, stunned.

Spending the majority of my teenage years in the 1990s, I was very familiar with McCoy’s music. “Wink,” “For a Change” and “The Shake” have always been songs that made me think of a happier time in my life. Being a fan of his music already, I was intrigued when Yakov Smirnoff told me he’d be hitting town this year.

At first I was worried that yet another country star thought performing in Branson would be easy money. It happens all the time. They show up with their big buses, big names and big egos, expecting to do their stage show and knock the crowd dead. More often than not, those acts fall face first.

Not McCoy. He was funny, enduring and without a doubt, put on one of the most fun and exciting shows I have ever seen on a Branson stage. I had a big cheesy grin on my face the entire time, and I wasn’t the only one. People in the audience ranged in ages from 4 to 84, and McCoy was able to entertain them all.

Click here for the rest of the story
http://www.bransondailynews.com/story.php?storyID=12955

Neal McCoy in Branson: Enjoying the small stage

By Joshua Clark
Staff Writer

Neal McCoy loves to have fun, and more importantly, he likes his audiences to have fun. Now that he is performing in Branson again, he gets to have a different type of fun.

“When we play festivals and fairs, places like that, it is high intensity, high energy,” McCoy said. “Here, we keep the energy level high, but I get to sing again and do some music we don’t normally get to do.”

There are several differences between McCoy’s regular concerts and his Branson show. He brought in a new band for his tenure in Branson.

“I brought this group in so we could do ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ and ‘Straighten Up and Fly Right,’” McCoy said. “People in town appreciate the variety. Plus, playing festivals and other places, we don’t get to do that a lot.”

Another thing McCoy doesn’t have is a set list.

“You will never see the same show twice because I have never done the same show twice,” McCoy said.

To read the rest of the story click here:

http://www.bransondailynews.com/story.php?storyID=12922

Performing in Moe Bandy's Blood: Has Show at Jim Stafford Theatre in Branson Missouri

By Joshua Clark
Branson Daily News Staff Writer

Success never came easy for Moe Bandy.

Born in Meridian, Miss., in 1944, Bandy’s family relocated to Texas when he was in the first grade. Bandy was taught to play the guitar by his father, but made little use of the ability until he was in his teens.

“My father taught me a few chords on the banjo, so I knew a little bit,” Bandy said. “They used to dress me up in a little cowboy hat. I’d sing in talent contests and I also played for relatives.”

As Bandy grew older, he fell in love with the sport of rodeo. He tried bronco-busting and bull-riding and by the time he was 16, he was competing in rodeos all over Texas.

“I put my music aside and concentrated on being a rodeo rider,” Bandy said. “I also worked as a sheet-metal worker in addition to being out on the road all the time. But I loved it all the same.”

In 1962, after breaking the same collar bone twice in the same week and getting a horn to his left side, he began to pursue a career in country music.

Bandy and a few fellow musicians began playing during their downtime when they were asked to play in a bar.

“We played that first night and got a great response,” Bandy said. “They invited us back, and Moe Bandy and the Country Partners were paid $5 a night.”

Click here for the rest of the story:
<a
